Good Cycling Facility of the Week: 1st November 2018

This week's Good Cycling Facility is a cycleway crossing a side road, with priority, in the Dutch city of Delft.

The cycleway has a 'bent out' design, meaning that it deviates slightly away from the road as it passes the junction. This creates a space for motor traffic turning into the side road to wait, yielding to passing cycle traffic, while keeping the road clear. It also ensures the cycleway is clear of motor traffic queuing to enter the main road.

The cycleway is smooth, flat and continuous across the side road, while drivers have to negotiate a ramp - these elements contribute to ensuring clear priority for cycling.
