This week's facility is fairly simple - a bypass of traffic signals at Monk Bar in York.
The left-hand arch in the gate is for walking and cycling only; the right hand arch is for motor traffic. As it is only wide enough for one stream of motor traffic, signals are used to allow east- and west-bound traffic to drive through the arch in turn. People cycling eastbound, however can take advantage of the bypass through the arch, avoiding the traffic signals. (But we are told that this arrangement isn't strictly legal!)
