Unlike in Britain, where tarmac surfacing on routes in rural areas is often resisted on the grounds of having an 'urbanising effect', cycle paths in rural parts of the Netherlands will have a smooth, all-year surface, meaning they are suitable for all users, for transport, all year around.
This cycle path - through woods to the east of the town of Oss - is no exception, composed of beautifully smooth tarmac, and wide enough for these two gentlemen to comfortably ride side-by-side, engaging in conversation.
