This week we're featuring design for bicycles on Java Island in Amsterdam.
The island is composed almost entirely of new housing, built in the 1990s. A feature is this central corridor, running down the spine of the island. With bollards at every entry and exit point, it can only be used by people walking and cycling.
The result is not just a route for people to travel up and down the island by bike (the access road for motor vehicles is on the outside of the island), but also a safe and pleasant space for the residents, without any danger.
