This week's Good Facility is an access road in Assen, marked with cycle lanes, and no centre line, at the point it meets a cycle path.
This is an appropriate treatment on this kind of road, which has very low levels of motor traffic, and reasonably high levels of cycling. This road is a direct route from Assen city centre out to the northern suburb of Peelo, but only for walking and cycling. It is not a route anywhere for motor traffic, except for local access. That means it is unlikely drivers will encounter oncoming motor traffic, allowing them to overtake people cycling with ease.
This street also joins up seamlessly with a cycle path that forms a direct route under Assen's ring road - the path is the red tarmac in the foreground of the picture. There is an easy transition between the two forms of cycle provision.
