Rural A-roads have the worst casualty statistics for cycling, per mile travelled. Separate provision on these kinds of roads is essential, not only due to the objective danger posed by mixing cycling with much faster motor traffic, but also because these routes are essentially no-go areas for the vast majority of the population, by bike, or by foot.
This week's Good Facility - along the A354 between Dorchester and Weymouth - shows that we can provide the kind of infrastructure that makes cycling a safe, comfortable and convenient experience on these kinds of roads.
