Good Cycling Facility of the Week: 1st December 2016

This week's Good Facility is a cycleway and bus stop bypass on Welford Road in the city of Leicester.

The good design elements here are the smooth red asphalt surface of the cycleway itself - similar to Dutch practice - clearly distinct from the footway, both visually, and with a height difference. The kerbs are low and forgiving, reducing crash risk if anyone strikes them.

The bus stop shelter is clear, meaning visibility is good for people about to cross the cycleway. The one minor problem here is the parking sign, causing an obstruction in the footway and cycleway.
