After the excitement of last week's big rides - and the local and mayoral elections - you might be forgiven for thinking that things will quieten down for the next few weeks. However, with thousands of cyclists coming out on their bikes to call for better conditions across the country - and with even Boris Johnson pledging before the event to implement the three key principles of 'Love London, Go Dutch' - the Cycling Embassy's input will be needed more than ever. Our politicians and planners need to understand that we'll no longer be fobbed off with warm words and poor design. We need to make sure that the principles people cycled for aren't watered down.
This month, on May 26th we are holding our AGM in Bristol, one of the country's leading cycling cities, and which coincidentally has just voted to have its own elected mayor. This meeting will be crucial to creating a membership structure that will allow the Embassy to become a more effective force in lobbying for change. As well as a chance to shape the future of the Embassy there will be a number of infrastructure safaris (including the original Sustrans route, the Bath/Bristol Railway path) and a mini policy bash the next day. We warmly invite all our members to attend - and if you're planning on doing so, please let us know.
We would also like to remind everyone that we are looking for a new Press Officer to join the board.
