This week's Good Facility is the cycle path running under Houten station, a new town just south of the city of Utrecht in the Netherlands.
Not only does this path pass easily under the railway line, and allow easy access to the station itself, this is a route unavailable to motor traffic. Houten is divided into segments, or cells, with no direct motor traffic routes between them. The two northernmost cells are divided by the railway line, yet it is easy to pass between the two on foot, or cycling.
The cycle path is composed of smooth red asphalt, and is visually distinct from the pedestrianised areas, with a height difference too, ensuring that people walking and cycling are kept out of each other's way.
