The city of Leicester has the largest pedestrianised area in Britain in which cycling is allowed.
Many of these streets are not strictly pedestrianised - they allow some motor traffic, for access. The street featured here - Market Street - allows motor vehicle access for loading between 5am-9am, with rising bollards.
They are, however, largely motor traffic-free, with cycling mixing happily with walking.

pedestrianised streets in Gloucester...
the central 'gate streets' in Gloucester are far wider than the ones shown in the photo, yet cycling is verboten between 10 am and 5 pm...
the infra is even better as there is a clearly differentiated central section as well...
