This week's Good Facility is a two-way cycle path in the Dutch city of Utrecht.
This was formerly a two-way road for motor traffic, with a narrow cycle path that then merged into the road. (The previous arrangement can be seen via the Streetview link). This has recently been changed. The road has been narrowed to a one-way lane for motor traffic, with the space reallocated for the wide two-way cycle path shown in the picture.
The arrangement is much simpler and safer, giving the direct and obvious route to cycle traffic. This two-way path becomes a 'cycle street' for a very brief section (in the foreground), simply to allow motor traffic access to a small number of properties. The red asphalt is continuous, however.
