Here you can see two parallel cycle paths. The one on the left runs alongside the main road and is flat and straight, while the one on the right runs parallel but is more recreational and scenic.
The scenic route isn't flat, as it runs through the sand dunes, while the direct route is.
It's not clear on the photograph, but to the right of the scenic cycle path is a horse path! This can be clearly seen on Google Streetview.
There's also a footpath which runs alongside the direct cycle path.

Also notable on this picture: the red text signposting. These are specifically for cyclists and provide direct routing, also to longer distance destinations. On the google streetview you can also see a green text sign on the same pole, which indicates a recreational route.
