This week we are featuring a bicycle street in Utrecht - a fietsstraat.
It is effectively designed as a cycle track, on which motorists have permission to drive. Importantly, the number of drivers using this section of street will be very low. The fietstraat is only used to access residential parking, and for deliveries - it is not a through route. This makes it safe and pleasant for anyone to use by bike.
While not a useful route for driving, the fietstraat forms part of a network for cycling, connecting up with cycle paths at each end, that are blocked to motor traffic. You can see these in the Streetview link, as well as the old form of this street, before it was upgraded to a fietsstraat!
