This week's Good Cycling Facility is a modal filter at Micklegate Bar in the city of York.
This experimental (temporary) scheme will last eighteen months, after which it may be made permanent. It uses a simple bollard, and traffic orders, to block motor traffic from passing out of the city centre through this historic gatehouse.
The intention is to improve the condition of the area by reducing the amount of motor traffic flowing through it, while still allowing access. Cycling and walking are unaffected - indeed cycling has become easier and safer, with the removal of motor traffic in the outbound direction.
With thanks to @YorkBikeBelles for the photograph, and the City of York and Jonny Cranshaw for implementing the scheme!
