This week's Good Facility is another Dutch cycle street, or fietsstraat, this time in Zwolle.
As with all these cycle streets, the key ingredient in making this a safe and attractive cycling environment is very low motor traffic levels. This particular street - Vondelkade - is closed at the far end to motor traffic, meaning it is only used as an access road for a small number of residential properties.
The cycle street itself forms a useful route for cycle traffic (running directly towards the centre of Zwolle) meaning that cycling levels are high.
The surface treatment - smooth red tarmac to signify a cycle route, combined with rough overrun areas at the edge to accommodate motor traffic - is the icing on the cake.
