This week we are featuring a simple piece of infrastructure in Bristol - a bollard that stops people driving through an arch between Broad Street and Quay Street, while leaving the route open for cycling. Measures like this can also serve to remove through traffic from streets, making them safe and attractive for cycling.
It's not perfect - it doesn't form part of a useful network, and has a bumpy cobbled surfaec - but shows what can be achieved simply and at low cost.

Good Cycling Facility of the Week: 1st May 2014, Bristol
This photo from Bristol is good but, Bristol's line painters have sought to make it 'not quite a highway' by painting Double Yellow Lines across the cyclist's and any daring pedestrian's path.
The lines are 'doing things twice' as there is no need to mark across such a level transition between road and cycle path; S86, Traffic Act 2004. And by painting the lines Bristol inadvertently suggests there isn't a passage for cycling.
