Cycle tracks and paths don't need to be visually intrusive. They can blend in with their surroundings if they are designed well, while still standing out from footways and carriageways.
This cycle path is on the Museumplein, behind the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. As you can see, it's been constructed to match its surroundings, while still being distinctive as a route. The paving is subtly different from the footway, and the kerbing marks out the cycle path, while being easy to cross, with a low height difference.
There's no reason why cycle paths and tracks can't form elements of attractive streetscapes. They don't need to be garish!
