This week's Good Facility is an example of a minor improvement to a junction in Utrecht, courtesy of Jaap Eldering.
A major cycle route running between the city centre and the east of the city cuts through this park. This used to involve having to turn across a lane of motor traffic (albeit on a relatively quiet street). The former arrangement can be seen on the Streetview link.
The priorities have now been changed, however, meaning people cycling no longer have to stop or give way; they have the priority. The road actually gives way to the cycle route.
The raised table has been retained; drivers have to negotiate a hump on the approach to the junction. However the cobbled surface has been replaced with smooth asphalt, for a better cycling experience.
The small details count too!
