This week's Good Facility is an example of one of the building blocks of bread-and-butter infrastructure - the two metre wide cycleway, alongside a main road.
Done well - as in this case, in the town of Wageningen in Gelderland - just two metres can go a long way. There is clear distinction between cycleway and footway, but the kerb is low, and forgiving, meaning it is possible to cycle right on the edge of the cyclway. And on the left hand side, there is clear space between the edge of the cycleway and the hedge (which itself provides a degree of comfort and separation from the road). A 2m path can, and should, easily accommodate cycling three abreast, as shown here.
Simple things - done right.
