Good Cycling Facility of the Week: 12th November 2015

This week's Good Facility is a typical Dutch cycleway alongside an 80km/h (50mph) oad. Wide, smooth, and well-separated from the road, with a verge, and trees. 

But this cycleway also has its own lighting, unlike the road - the cycleway is lit, and road isn't. The lighting columns are also lower than they would be on the road. This improves social safety on the cycleway. Lighting isn't necessary for these reasons on the road, so it isn't provided.
