Not enough space for cycling on a particular street?
Instead of being two-way for motor traffic, this residential street in Utrecht has been restricted to one-way, allowing space to be used for wide, smooth cycle lanes, on either side, for cycling in both directions.
Levels of motor traffic here are low, thanks to a system of one-way streets (including this one) that ensures they are only used for accessing properties in the area, and not as a through route.
The cycle lanes are smooth tarmac, while the section for motor vehicles is cobbled (and has humps) to keeep motor vehicle speeds low.
