What do Glasgow, Edinburgh, Twickenham, Whitchurch, Basingstoke, Brighton, and Tunbridge Wells have in common? Well, if the response to our BikeMinded twitter competition are anything to go by they're just a few of the places people would like to see Copenhagenized in the UK.
We were amazed at how much some of you could squeeze into 140 characters - not so much tweets as tiny essays:
@GBCycleEmbassy I'd #copenhagenize my home city of #liverpool. Compact, historic & needs a boost! #bikeminded (@Ibikebrighton)
#BikeMinded Brighton needs to be Copenhagenized so cyclists can be treated as legitimate traffic not wheeled pedestrians (@joemattinson)
Would love the A6 in Preston "Broughton to citycentre" to be #bikeminded, like placing the biggest add for cycling through our city (@SteveRatcliffe)
Eastbourne's Grove Rd/South St: one-way corridors of double-parked besnarlment. Cafes pubs shops markets life itself would bloom #BikeMinded (@BespokeEB)
And a special mention goes to Andrew Ross:
@GBCycleEmbassy Arsenal, London – because my son hates cycling on the pavement, and if he was in Copenhagen he wouldn't have to #BikeMinded (@andrew_ross_uk)
for enduring a nasty trolling response pointing out that his son was breaking the law, and 'like a motorist doing 20mph on the pavement'. His son is 5, by the way
Sadly, they couldn't all be winners, we had to pick just one. And doubly sadly the prize isn't to actually Copenhagenize the place in question - maybe one day, though. So step forward Daniel Cooper, author of the winning tweet, and claim your prize.
I'd Copenhagenize Hastings as it's been hit hard by the recession and people are in need of a cheap, clean form of transport. #bikeminded (@DE_Cooper)
If you missed out, then there's still one last chance to win yourself some tickets as the nice people at Bikeminded have kept a pair back for a competition of their own. Keep an eye on the Bikeminded site for more details.
