Sussex Infrastructure Safari - 18th August - REMINDER

Jim Davis, Chair of the Cycling Embassy of Great Britain cordially invites you to join him on an Infrastructure Safari of Worthing and Brighton incorporating much of his daily commute and a lot of cycle facilties to see and discuss. And it's a chance to ride along the seaside of course.

If you are free on the 18th August, and fancy a very leisurely ride to see, photograph and discuss the good, the bad and the downright dangerously offensive in cycle infrastructure, the ride shall begin at 12.30pm from the NORTH [London & Brighton bound platform] SIDE of Worthing Railway Station. This should give everyone ample time to get to the South Coast.

Direct trains are operated by Southern from:
London Victoria via Gatwick Airport, Hove & Shoreham by Sea.
Brighton via Hove & Shoreham by Sea
Southampton Central & Portsmouth Harbour - both via Chichester & Barnham.

Timetables may be found here (Numbers 11 & 13) and their cycle policy may be found here. The date was chosen to put it after the furore of the Olympic Games, and to give us a fighting chance of ice-cream weather. We shall however be going through Worthing at the time of the International Birdman Competition(!) which should be finishing by the time we get to Worthing Promenade.

A Google Map of the route marking out points of interest may be found by following this link. This has been updated with additional comments from our Webmaster, Anthony Cartmell, who has been banging his head against the brick wall of local cycle campaigning in Worthing for years. And then Jim joined him.

We advise you to bring some sort of refreshment during the ride (although there are shops and cafes along the route). At the end, we shall be stopping at a pub for a pint and post ride chat (Good Companions, 132 Dyke Road, Brighton BN1 3TE) and those wishing to head back to Brighton (or Hove) Railway Stations can be accompanied if necessary.
