Superblock

A term used to describe Barcelona's approach to modal filtering.

9 block areas - the 'Superblocks' - have been converted into areas which motor traffic can only access, rather than drive through. 

This removal of through traffic from the 'Superblock' has created areas which are safe and attractive for walking and cycling, as well as being quieter, unpolluted, and with space for other human-scale activity.
