'Predictability' is one of the principles of the Dutch system of Sustainable Safety.

In plain terms this means 'instantly recognisable road design'. The message a road environment sends to the user should be clear and unambiguous. The design should make sense, and should make the behaviour that is expected on that road or street obvious.

'Predictability' also involves continuity and consistency. Roads and streets should be composed of the same design types and rules from place to place; there should be no surprises.
