Obesity

Obesity is a term used to describe somebody who is very overweight with a high degree of body fat.

One cause of obesity is lack of physical activity. Someone who engages in active travel is less likely to suffer from obesity someone who drives everywhere. The obesity rate among adults in the Netherlands is around 10%, compared to 26% in the UK, with a similar percentage of saturated fats in the diets of both countries.

Utility cycling is a great way to tackle obesity, and it doesn't even have to feel like exercise. For example, children who cycle to school get exercise without even realising that's what they're doing.
