MOVA

An acronym, standing for Microprocessor Optimised Vehicle Actuated control, a system developed by TRL in the 1980s, and used at signal-controlled junctions.

The system uses sensors on the approaches to the junction to detect (motor) traffic, and automatically alters the signal time on each arm of the junction, accounting for (motor) traffic flows. The intention is to increase the operating capacity of signal-controlled junctions.
