Homogeneity

'Homogeneity' is one of the principles of the Dutch system of Sustainable Safety.

This principle means that the mass, speed and direction of users of the road network should be equalised as much as is possible.

The intention is to minimise the number of interactions, and their severity. It implies that heavy objects and light objects (for instance, human beings) should not share the same space. If the same space has to be shared, then the speed of the heavier objects should be brought into line with the lighter objects as much as is possible.
