Exercise

'Exercise' is defined as physical activity requiring effort.

However - in a transport context - it is important to make the distinction between exercise and physical activity. While exercise obviously has public health benefits, it is much harder to integrate into (and around) everyday activities.

'Exercise' - like jogging, or swimming - will typically involve specific time set aside in the day, as well as extra time spent changing and showering. Physical activity, on the other hand, is something that people can engage in as part of everyday life. People can be physically active while travelling from A to B if we design our environments to make walking and cycling safe, attractive and obvious choices.
