Bikeability

The national programme of cycle training in England, Wales and Scotland.

Bikeability is based on standards approved by the Department for Transport - however, it is entirely voluntary, and not part of the curriculum.

Although evidence suggests that children who receive Bikeability training do gain confidence and improve their skills, there is no evidence to show that it increases cycling frequency among children, or cycling independence.

Cycle training like Bikeability, therefore, should not be used as a way of compensating for poor cycling environments.
