This cycleway is Assen is safe, attractive and easy to use for everyone cycling. It is smooth and wide, and well-separated from motor traffic, thanks to planting and residential parking. The risk of 'dooring ' is minimised thanks to a buffer zone between parked cars and the cycleway.

The kerbing between the cycleway and the footway is particularly important too - it allows people to cycle right next to the footway (even to mount it), meaning that it is possible to overtake people riding two abreast.
