This week we have a facility submitted by Joel, connecting a business park to the Scottish town of Holytown.
This shared use path, with a good surface, is a direct route from the town centre to the business park, not available to motor traffic - so it's attractive and competitive.
We do have some concerns about the quality of the path, however. It is 2.5m wide, which probably won't be sufficient if the path becomes popular as the business park expands, particularly as this is just shared use. There is plenty of space here to have made it wider.
It's good that the path has lighting, but the width of the path has been wasted by installing the columns in the path. Social safety might also be a concern on this path.
So it's slightly worrying that even when we have an easy opportunity to do things well, what actually gets built turns out be compromised. Next week we'll be featuring a Dutch example of one of these paths.
