Good Cycling Facility of the Week: 17th April 2014

This week's Good Facility is a residential service street, running alongside a main road in 's-Hertogenbosch, which doubles as a cycle route.

The street is only used to gain access to the properties and side streets on the right. It is 'filtered' at various points to prevent people from driving all the way along it. The cycle route is direct, smooth and continuous, and there will be few interactions with motor traffic. 

Many British towns and cities have these kinds of 'service' roads (typically dating from around the 1930s) which could easily be adapted to form this kind of safe and attractive environment for cycling.
