This week's Good Facility is a bi-directional cycleway running along the Ij river in Amsterdam, close to hte central station.
As with the cycleway along the Embankment in London, a bi-directional cycleway on the 'river' side of a road makes sense because it reduces the number of junctions that have to be dealt with when cycling.
Of particular note in this example are the width (over four metres wide)l the low, forgiving kerbing on each side of the cycleway; the smooth, distinct red asphalt surface; and the lighting, with separate, lower lighting elements for the cycleway and the footway. The cycleway is also a considerable distance away from the road, making cycling a more comfortable experience.
In the foreground there is a clear, signal-controlled crossing of a side road.
